AVIA-GIS conducts second VECMAP on-tour in Denmark

November 29th 2016

Our second VECMAP® on-tour workshop for this year, and in fact the last in 2016 made a successful goodbye kiss to 2016!

This time it took place in Copenhagen in collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark - National Veterinary Institute, on the 29th November.

The workshop had 17 participants from different institutions including our partners in DTU such as: Danish Cattle, State Serum Institute, University of Copenhagen, University of Southern Denmark, Fauna Photonics, University of Aarhus, Danish Hydraulic Institute and Roskilde University Centre.

“ … It was great to know about the scope and opportunities  of VECMAP . I am impressed and will remain attached with the colleagues of VECMAP to learn more and apply it in my field…” Najmul Haider, PhD Student, Division for Diagnostics & Scientific Advice, DTU.

“ …I think the tools VECMAP provide can be beneficial for my work with ticks and tick-borne pathogens, and I am looking forward to explore the possibilities of the software further. …” Nanna Andersen, MD, PhD-student Research Department of Clinical Microbiology, University of Southern Denmark

During the workshop, participants got introduced about VECMAP®, its added value to their work, and how to gear it to their specific needs. They also got a hands-on training on spatial modelling with VECMAP® Lite using their own VECMAP® Lite software package.

Stories on how VECMAP® was used in some of the projects done by DTU team were presented: Culicoides in Western Europe, Neuro-Borreliosis Patients, and Liver Flukes at Cattle farm level in Denmark.

"VECMAP® on-tour" is the new Avia-GIS initiative to organize introductory workshops hosted by institutions throughout Europe which are at the heart of the action.

We sincerely thank the National Veterinary Institute in DTU for hosting this workshop, their continuous support, constructive feedback, and their hospitality. Especially Mr René Bødker, Epidemiologist, leading the groups of Vector Borne Disease Transmission group in the Division for Diagnostics and Scientific Advice.
